When Harry met Meghan

Royal wedding fever hit the UK on May 19th.  What a gorgeous sunny day for a wedding and just like any young couple celebrating their wedding, I wish them well.🥂 For me that's as far as it goes.  The idea of absorbing every detail of people I don't know is ridiculous.

What to do, where to go then, before we were sucked into all the wedding hype?

After breakfast, Steve and I hit the road and made our escape, but with media coverage never far behind us.  As we made our way to Henley-on-Thames, finding a radio station that wasn't gushing fluff and royal wedding mania, proved difficult.  So if you can't beat them, join them, and Scarlett Moffatt reporting from Windsor, was definitely done from the heart, and very funny. "Why aye pet"💗

Henley was a hive of busyness with red, white and blue everywhere.  Not a large screen in sight though, instead several hot wheels, including a Lamborghini, Ferrari and a Porsche went prancing down the high street with engines burbling.  Steve fell in love all over again!

Music was being played at the Bandstand at Mill Meadows, with people enjoying picnics whilst soaking up the rays.  Ice cream was in abundance and it felt like a quintessentially British Summer's day.🌞

Out and about in Henley-on-Thames

We booked into a quaint country pub for the night. The Frog at Skirmett is set in the rolling hills of the Chilterns, in the middle of nowhere between Marlow and Henley.  With poor internet and phone coverage we had landed in media free heaven...total bliss!

Dinner was excellent with Steve enjoying his starter of figs with prosciutto, followed by whole sole on the bone with crayfish, served in a white wine sauce.  My whitebait was yummy, and a popular British dish!  I then tucked into a cassoulet of cannelloni beans, duck leg and Toulouse sausage...parfait!  We couldn't resist desert so went for the mascarpone creme brulee.  Considering the pub was well off the beaten track the restaurant was full, with a good, lively atmosphere.

All things considered the royal wedding day turned out well and it was a great excuse to go on a little jolly!  Next time though, I'll be getting on a plane!

I wonder what the future holds for all the couples who tied the knot recently, hopefully one filled with continuing love and lots of happy memories.

Steve and I have been together for over thirty years and are still talking...ain't love grand!
