Sunnylicious Weather and an enchanted Garden

The weather in the Lake District this bank holiday weekend has been sunnylicious🌞

I love the lakes at any time of year, but enjoying it in brilliant sunshine really is the icing on the cake!

Steve and I walked to Alcock Tarn.  Starting from Grasmere, we took the circular route and made it to the top in one and a half hours.  Such a beautiful day and the scenery was stunning.

Once at the top we enjoyed lunch, whilst absorbing the atmosphere of the place.

It was unbelievably quiet with short gusts of wind blowing on the other side of the tarn, rippling the water as it came our way, before passing over us.  It felt like another world.

We arrived back in Grasmere four hours later following what I can only describe as an amazing experience.

The next day I could hardly walk!  My poor little old legs!

A great excuse though to chill and relax at Owl lodge, White Cross Bay, Nr Windermere.

                Stagshaw Gardens...a hidden gem

We have driven passed the entrance to this National Trust property many times, but never visited.

After parking in Waterhead and walking by the lakeside for ten minutes, we crossed over the road  to Stagshaw Gardens.

Stagshaw  has a collection of rhododendrons, camellias & azaleas

Entrance is free to Stagshaw, and this lovely woodland garden with its rambling paths, lined with shrubs, trees and plants gives it an enchanted feel.

A path leads from Stagshore gardens into Skelghyll wood.  You could actually spend a whole day here wandering the trails!  We stumbled upon Jenkins Crag with outstanding views across Windermere.

Walking amongst the giants
Skelghyll Wood has some of the tallest conifer trees in Cumbria and the tallest of their kind in England.

Victorians planted over 150 specimen conifer trees from all over the world.

The tallest tree in Cumbria and the tallest Grand fir in England.  Grand fir are native to North America where the tallest is near Vancouver in British Columbia.

We had a relaxing stroll back to Waterhead along the lake shore of Windermere, before ending our walk with a refreshing beer at the Wateredge Inn.

The weather!...just amazing. The end of a brilliant afternoon walk...CHEERS!
